Our Story

Back in the 90's while still in his 20's, Phong Nguyen visited Vietnam for the first time since leaving the country as a child. He was deeply moved by images of young children working in the streets as lottery ticket sellers, shoe-shine boys, or doing odd jobs instead of going to school. By happenstance, he was introduced to a group of Salesian sisters who were working with these street children to provide them with free meals and a safe environment. Phong sent back his own money and solicited funds from others to provide the financial support for these Salesian sisters. Phong continued his work with the Salesians sister for the next 24 years and gradually increase the amount of funding and scope of his support. His generosity has allowed underprivileged children to receive financial assistance from kindergarten to graduating from college.

His philosophy has always been to help one child at a time and giving that child the opportunity to obtain an education that will allow him/her to support themselves and others. Along the way, he has provided funds to build schools, dormitory for girls, nutrition programs for the children and salary to pay the teachers. In 2023, Purple Ink Charity was found to continue Phong's vision and work by allowing a larger number of people to participate. The members of Purple Ink are as passionate about carry out the charitable work to as stated in our Mission statement. We hope that you will join us in making an impact in people lives by providing underpriviliged people with opportunities to obtain an education that will significantly improve their future.
